At Eyes for You, our mission is clear: to empower visually impaired individuals to live independently, with confidence and dignity. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of working with organizations worldwide in disability space, learning from individuals at every level, from leadership to fieldwork. These experiences have given us a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the visually impaired in their everyday lives.
One moment, in particular, stands out. During a working lunch, our founder was seated next to a person with visual impairment. As the lunch boxes were opened, excitement filled the room—except for the individual next to him, who quietly asked, "What is in this box?" That simple question sparked a powerful realization. From something as small as knowing what’s in a box to bigger questions like, "Where is my cane?", "How far is the lift in this building?", or "Is my boss in this room?", the everyday tasks we take for granted are real challenges for those without sight.
Turning Compassion into Technology
Around the same time came a turning moment, our Chief Data Scientist presented a proof of concept using AI to address accessibility - the moment when we realised the true potential of technology to solve real-world challenges. It was the start of something bigger. Our Chief Architect quickly followed, outlining how advanced engineering could elevate this idea even further—speeding up responses, integrating external cameras like body cams, and incorporating gesture controls to make the experience seamless. His vision filled the team with excitement and confidence. Behind this effort, a passionate and talented young team played a critical role. With fresh ideas, creativity, and dedication, they brought the app to life. Their commitment to using technology to solve real-world problems was key to making Eyes for You the revolutionary tool it is today.
